MP marks pub week with visit to Appleton-Le-Moors

Anne McIntosh, the MP for Thirsk, Malton and Filey, is to mark pub week by visiting The Moors Inn at Appleton-Le-Moors, on Saturday.

The MP said: “Pubs play a crucial role in the local community, as they are generally the focal point of the village and the surrounding area. Pubs provide a local meeting and socialising point, employment to local residents and attract tourists.

“It is vital to support local businesses, including pubs, in rural areas to sustain the economy and allow residents and tourists to enjoy everything that the local area has to offer.”

Fine words from the local Ryedale MP, but will she take the message back to her government colleagues in Westminster, outlining that in general, the pub trade is a dying trade and amongst several principal reasons for this, is the exhorbitant price of beer/lager/cider that is passed on to customers and overall, is taxed in the extreme. A tangible level of support would be for her not just to state the obvious, BUT to declare that she agrees that the pub trade needs financial help and lobby for a lowering of taxation on pub alcohol sales and other commodities/services connected to the licensed trade.
