MP calls on minister for health review

A NORTH Yorkshire MP has met the Minister for Health to request an urgent review of health funding for the region.

Anne McIntosh, MP for Thirsk and Malton, met Dr Dan Poulter to convey her view that the current funding formula was unfair to cover a sparsely populated area with a growing elderly population.

Miss McIntosh said: “The funding allocation figure shows that per head of population, North Yorkshire receives substantially less than other urban parts of Yorkshire and less even than neighbouring counties like Cumbria.

“This shortfall hampers efficient use of community hospitals such as the Lambert, St Monica’s, Malton Hospital and the Friarage as well as the provision of health care through GPs and community nurses.”

Miss McIntosh said she would also raise the issues with fellow North Yorkshire MPs and Sir David Nicholson, chief executive of the new Commissioning Board, to try and secure fairer funding in North Yorkshire.
