A PICKERING youngster was the lucky winner of a national competition to spend the day with a top video game designer.

Joshua Carter spent the day with Disney’s computer game guru and world famous game developer Warren Spector as part of the competition in conjunction with Toxic Magazine.

The competition was launched to offer one child, who is passionate about becoming a video game designer, the chance to spend the day with Warren, founder of Disney Interactive Studio’s Junction Point.

Warren found fame after developing the award-winning game, Deus Ex, and has most recently developed Disney Epic Mickey and its sequel Disney Epic Mickey 2: the Power of 2.

Joshua impressed the judges with his passion for gaming and Disney Epic Mickey and was chosen as the winner from hundreds of entries.

The 10-year-old was given the chance to visit one of the studios involved in the creation of Epic Mickey 2: the Power of Two, Blitz Studios in Leamington Spa, to learn all about what goes in to being a video game designer, from recording sound in their sound booth to designing his own character.

Joshua also won a PS3 and a copy of the new game, and was given the chance to interview Warren about his career.

“I had an awesome day and have been really inspired by all the people there to become a video game designer – especially Warren Spector – and cannot wait for the release of Epic Mickey 2,” said Joshua.

“Thank you for the prizes and everyone who taught me on the day.”
