NEW place signs are to be installed in Marton to replace those that have deteriorated so much they are causing confusion among visitors.

The signs are the result of an application for funding made by Marton parish meeting towards a project that includes other planned improvements within the village, to the LEADER Small Scale Enhancements Scheme.

Terry Wallis, from Marton parish meeting, said the project had been motivated initially by the villages’ need to replace Marton’s three village signs.

“As the project progressed it became apparent that because of the residents’ pride in their village there were other aspects that needed consideration also,” he said.

“Marton will now benefit from having its chapel clock repaired, the siting of a replacement waste bin, with a lid to prevent litter being blown away, near to the village noticeboard which itself is to have a facelift and an additional dog waste bin located on the eastern side of the village in Marton Lane to discourage fouling by dogs.”

The total cost of the project is £3,717 and with £2,467 being funded from the SSE Scheme. The balance of £1,250 has to be raised from within the village.

Marton parish meeting and Marton Mornings Jubilee Charity have together pledged to contribute £1,000 towards the project and other contributions from individual residents on an anonymous basis are being sought.
