The British Red Cross is looking for people in Scarborough to volunteer for its fire and emergency support service, which will soon be launched in the area. Volunteers are needed to help run the service, which provides vital practical and emotional support to victims of fire, floods and other emergencies.
An open day is being held on Tuesday, from 10am to 3pm at the precinct at the top of Vernon Road, Scarborough, for people to find out more and meet existing volunteers, as well as seeing the specially adapted vehicle they use on call-outs.
Anyone interested can phone 01723 376783 or email jcoulthurst@redcross.org.uk to get further information.
Earlier this year the Red Cross launched the fire and emergency support service for North Yorkshire in partnership with North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service.
Trained Red Cross volunteers arrive at the scene of the fire or emergency in a specially adapted vehicle, which has a comfortable seating area and is fully stocked with essential items like food, clothing and toiletries. From the shelter of the vehicle the volunteers can give practical support, as well as vital emotional support.
