The CCTV image released by police after a girl was touched indecently at York train station
A 16-YEAR-OLD girl was sexually assaulted at York train station, sparking a police hunt for her alleged attacker.
Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) are appealing for information and have released a CCTV image of a man they believe can help with their enquiries into the incident.
PC Steve Breary, investigating the incident on Saturday October 13, said: “The victim, a 16-year-old girl from Malton, arrived at the station around 2.40pm and went to sit in the concourse to wait for her friend.
“Whilst sitting there, a man approached the girl and asked if he could sit next to her. He then started talking to the victim in an inappropriate manner, making her feel intimidated and uncomfortable.
“The man then got up and, as he left, he touched the victim indecently.”
Police have made several lines of enquiry, including reviewing CCTV images and have since identified a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.
PC Breary added: “The man’s behaviour was totally unacceptable and left a young girl understandably shocked and shaken.
“I would urge anyone who recognises the man pictured, or knows his whereabouts, to please get in touch.”
