A VILLAGE primary school in North Yorkshire has gained top marks from Ofsted.

Inspectors rated Crayke CE Primary School outstanding and praised staff for accelerating rates of progress for all pupils. They also commended the school’s key strength in leadership in teaching so pupils become “exceptional and fluent” readers, write accurately and expressively and reach high standards in maths.

Crayke is among the first primary schools in York and North Yorkshire to be classed as outstanding in all areas under the Government’s new no-notice inspection framework, introduced in September. Schools are inspected under the four areas of teaching; achievement; leadership; and behaviour and safety.

Coun Arthur Barker, executive member for Schools said: “North Yorkshire County Council has a total commitment to ensuring that the children of the county are educated in the best possible schools, and are therefore delighted with this achievement for Crayke – the result of hard work by staff and children and inspired teaching.”
