SHOPPERS are being offered the chance to win a prize worth about £1,000 by taking part in ‘Maltonopoly’ this festive season.

During December, shops in Malton will be open on Sundays and customers spending £20 in five participating shops will be entered into a free prize draw to win a luxury hamper.

All participating businesses have donated something, including a meal for two, with wine, at the New Malton and bed and breakfast at the Talbot Hotel.

Rob Wormall, manger of the Talbot, who came up with the idea, said there was a diverse and growing range of businesses in Malton.

“We don’t want to keep this to ourselves – we want to encourage more shoppers to come and discover all these retail opportunities for themselves,” he added.

“The idea of Maltonopoly is that you can do your Christmas shopping in Malton on any of the Sundays in December to take part. This doesn’t all have to happen on one Sunday and when you make purchases in any five of the participating stores, you simply submit your receipts as proof when entering the draw.”

Sophie Legard of Malton Relish and Malton Events Group, who is organising Maltonopoly, said the overall aim of the game was to spend £20 in any of the shops who are part of the scheme.

“When you have spent £20 in five or more shops, you can be entered into the prize draw,” she added.

“One lucky person will win everything, the value of which will be approximately £1,000 – and don’t forget, it is only purchases you make on any of the Sundays in December in the lead up to Christmas that count.”

Some of the participating stores in the Sunday trading game are The Topiary Tree, The Patisserie, Goose and The Moose, R Yates and Son and Smash and Shambles Antiques.

Maltonopoly cards can be picked up in any of the participating shops and your card and proofs of purchase can then be submitted to Rob at the Talbot Hotel or Sophie at Malton Relish.
