Sports field team plea over dog mess

DOG owners are being urged to show consideration when walking their animals near Helmsley Recreation Ground.

John Higgs, chairman of the operating committee, said dog owners are prohibited from exercising pets on the sports fields on both sides of the path.

He said: “They are obligated to keep to the public footpath and have their dogs on a short lead at all times, as well as being responsible for ensuring that any dog waste is removed from the site. “Kirkbymoorside Junior Football Club has recently started Saturday training on the site and it was disappointing to see dog waste left by a minority of dog owners who are ignoring the rules which are in place to protect sports users of the facility from what can be a significant risk to health.”
