RUNNERS braved the chilly North Yorkshire weather to take part in a 10k race around a Ryedale town and its countryside yesterday.

The Pickering And Moors 10K, which marked its eighth year, was organised to raise money for St Joseph’s RC Primary School in Pickering, which served as the finishing line for the event.

Those taking part set off from Lady Lumley’s School, with the first man home David Elliot, from Pickering, followed by Steve Brown, from Catterick, and Lady Lumley’s pupil Rory Stead, from Allerston.

The first woman home was Lynn Humpleby, from Norton, a member of Pickering Runners Club and a former reporter with The Press’ sister title, the Gazette and Herald.
