Scarborough Borough Council to axe director jobs

FOUR senior roles at a North Yorkshire council are to be axed as it faces having to save £700,000 more than expected next year.

Scarborough Borough Council said it needed to carry out a restructure after learning the amount of savings it would have to make in 2013/14 could rise from £2.5 million to £3.2 million.

Its existing department head and strategic director posts will be shed, to be replaced by a four-strong senior management team, while a review of other senior posts will be held.

A meeting of the full authority will be asked to ratify the changes in January. The council’s chief executive, Jim Dillon, said: “While job losses are always regrettable, they are unfortunately unavoidable in the current climate.”
