School photograph sent in by Gazette & Herald reader Jan Coupland
GAZETTE reader Jan Coupland has sent us this lovely picture in the hope of finding out more about it.
Jane said: “It’s a school from about 1907/8 at a guess.
“The boy to the left of the one holding in the number is William Thomas Hesp Sanderson, born 1899. He lived in Malton and the 1911 census gives his address as 8 Derwent Place, Castlegate.”
Jan added: “He went on to join the army during the First World War when he was under-age.
“He served in the West Yorkshire Regiment, and ended his days as a Chelsea Pensioner.
“Bill was my husband’s uncle and we would love to know when the school photo was taken and exactly where, and any other information readers may be able to share.”
