A CHARITY fundraising event is hoping to go with a bang this year with a new twist.

Ryedale Special Families annual Enormous Lunch has been given a completely new look with a special ‘Bangers and Mash’ menu, linking together as many catering venues as possible.

The week-long event, which runs from November 26 to December 2, will see as many hotels, pubs, restaurants and cafes as possible throughout Ryedale offering their own version of ‘Bangers and Mash’ with a donation of £1 per meal being made to the charity.

Rob Davies, funding co-ordinator for Ryedale Special Families, said: “For the past three years we’ve benefited quite significantly from the Enormous Lunch idea, which was the fantastic brainchild of the sister of one of our trustees.

“This year we decided to do something a little different and Robert Wormall, of the Talbot Hotel, came up with this simple but brilliant concept.”

Rob said that the ongoing services which the charity provids for more than 450 Ryedale families relied heavily on the generous support it received from local people.

“It’s important to us that we ring the changes from time to time and also create something that is fun and that everyone can enjoy,” he added.

“We’ve sounded out a few venues this week and already have seven who have offered to get involved so we’re hugely optimistic that the idea will catch on.”

Alice Naylor-Leyland, who is honorary patron of the charity, said: “It’s a simple yet fun and different idea and if we can persuade lots of different venues to come on board then we should raise a significant sum.”

In addition to The Talbot Hotel, other venues already on board with the Enormous Lunch idea include the Old Lodge Hotel and The Yard in Malton, the Cresswell Arms, Appleton-le-Street; the Moors Inn, Appleton-le-Moors and the Feathers Hotel in Helmsley.

Malton Relish has also agreed to incorporate the idea into one of their monthly supper evenings.

Ryedale Special Families is appealing to any hotel, restaurant, pub or café willing to get involved to phone Rob Davies on 01653 699000 or email him directly at robdavies@ryedalespecialfamilies.org.uk
