Ampleforth Pre-School Group, who are looking forward to a Christmas shopping evening at the village hall on Friday
A VILLAGE pre-school group is on the look out for more families in an effort to secure its long-term future after a steady decline in attendance numbers.
The Ampleforth Pre-School Group is run voluntarily by Heather Howden and Chris Kelsey, who said it provides a safe environment for youngsters aged up to five.
The group meets every Tuesday, 9.30am-11am, at Ampleforth Village Hall. At its height, 25 children attended regularly but in the past five years there has been a steady decline with current numbers down to just six or seven tots.
Now, more parents, grandparents and childminders are being invited to make use of the group. Organisers say that as well as helping children to learn and interact with others, the sessions also provide an opportunity for adults to socialise.
A charge of £2.50 is made per family per session, irrespective of the number of children in each family, and that includes refreshments as well as helping to meet the cost of the hire of the hall.
A Christmas shopping evening is being held at the hall on Friday at 7pm to help raise funds for the group. Tickets cost £5 and include a glass of wine and nibbles. To find out more phone Heather Howden on 01347 868306 or Chris Kelsey on 01347 888296.
