Chance to shape the North York Moors National Park

THE search is on for two people to join the North York Moors National Park Authority’s team of members, an influential group which plays a major role in shaping the direction of the authority.

Appointments will be made by Environment Secretary Owen Paterson, and the deadline for applications is November 16.

Candidates will be expected to have a good awareness of the issues affecting national parks generally and a clear understanding of their purposes.

The 22 members are responsible for essential strategic management decisions including wildlife, archaeology, education, planning, recreation and communications.

The appointments will start in April and are initially for up to four years with the option of re-appointment for up to eight years. The position is unsalaried, although an allowance and expenses are provided. Members are asked to commit between two and three days a month.

Jim Bailey, chairman of the North York Moors National Park Authority, said: “Members play a key role in setting policies and priorities and ensuring that money is well-spent. There is no denying that our new recruits join us at a challenging time in our history, but there is also much to be positive about.”

Application forms and further details are available online at www.northyorkmoors.org.uk/jobs or from Chris Buxton at Natural England, Foundry House, 3 Millsands, Riverside Exchange, Sheffield, S3 8NH, phone 0300 060 2745.
