We're ready for Arctic blast, say roads bosses

HIGHWAYS bosses in North Yorkshire and York are fully prepared for the Arctic blast this weekend, with tens of thousands of tons of salt stockpiled, they say.

North Yorkshire County Council said it had more than 50,000 tonnes of salt throughout the county, and salt heaps and bins had been replenished.

A spokeswoman said that with a £7.1 million budget, it routinely treated well over half of the county’s 5,600 miles of road – the largest treated network of any English county.

City of York Council said its salt barn was full with 3,000 tonnes of salt.
Weathermen are predicting much colder northerly winds across North Yorkshire on Friday and into the weekend, causing temperatures to plummet and some wintry showers.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is holding a workshop at Howden School on November 14 to ask for views on winter services, allowing for discussions of salting routes, salt bins and how local community schemes operate.

What a laugh, there's no chance of snow if councils are ready for it! Who do they get the forecast from the Disney weathercentre or a saltmine?

Because North Yorkshire CC doesn't cover York... their salt filling stops at Sutton on the Forest, Shipton, Hessay, Long Marston, Flaxton, and Gate Helmsley - and no further in towards York. The fact our bins haven't all been filled is because York city council want to save money by cutting services to the vunerable.
