Lauren's in tune to take titles triple
BURYTHORPE-BASED show jockey Lauren Gibson made a cracking start to the 2008 showing season by taking three separate finals titles at the Ponies UK National Winter Championships at Myerscough Arena in Preston on March 15-16.
The talented 11-year-old Norton College student stole the show riding her home-produced Dartmoor gelding, seven-year-old Locharmoss Symphony.
The pair won the Lee Smith Llanarth Ridden Mountain & Moorland Final, then the Waxwing Mountain & Moorland First Ridden Final for Home Producers, followed by the Waxwing Mountain & Moorland First Ridden Open Final.
Lauren kept her cool and went on to take the Championship in each division and ended the weekend with a 1st Reserve Championship Best in Show on the Sunday evening performance.
Lauren and Locharmoss Symphony ended last season on a high after winning the Ridden Gelding of the Year 2007 Award, awarded by the Dartmoor Pony Society, and look set to have another fantastic season.
Lauren, who is totally dedicated to her sport and has been riding since before she was able to walk, has a team of four ponies for 2008.
Her next outing will be the Southern Division of the Ponies UK Winter Championships in Braintree, Essex and takes place over three days from March 2830.
Qualifying rounds for the Horse of the Year Show and Olympia will then follow.
And her progress will be followed by the Gazette & Herald.
