It’s A Coast Thing, Scarborough Art Gallery, September 9
8:02am Saturday 11th August 2012 in What's on
ARCHIVE film footage of North Yorkshire seaside towns will be on display at Scarborough Art Gallery next month.
The It’s A Coast Thing exhibition will feature a selection of films from the Yorkshire Film Archive, focusing on the coast and dating back to the 1960s.
Footage will include Flamborough “climmers”, or egg collectors, the final journey of the Scarborough to Whitby train in 1965, and other local events.
Sue Howard, director of the Yorkshire Film Archive, said: “The films will show changes through the decades, from the climmers at Flamborough in 1908 and footage of a military camp at Scarborough just after the First World War, to the obvious holiday films, including Having a Wonderful Time, a promotional film commissioned by Scarborough Corporation in 1960, and the less obvious workings of the Waddington’s Piano Factory.”
The shows will be held at the gallery at 3pm and 5.30pm on Sunday, September 9, as part of the Heritage Open Days weekend.
Tickets are free but limited, so advance booking is recommended on 01723 374753.
