MARTIN Carthy, one of England’s most celebrated folk artists, will take to the stage at Scarborough’s Seafest music festival on July 20, kicking off a whole weekend of music and entertainment at West Pier and around the town.

For more than 40 years Martin Carthy has been one of folk music’s greatest innovators, trailblazing musical partnerships with the likes of Steeleye Span, Dave Swarbrick, wife Norma Waterson and daughter Eliza Carthy.

Festival co-founder and singer Richard Grainger said: “As part of our strategy to make the festival more sustainable for the future, we will once again be selling tickets for the evening events.

“However, in order to encourage more people, including families, to come and enjoy the weekend, we will be offering free entry Saturday and Sunday daytimes.”

Richard adds acts from as far away as USA and New Zealand will be appearing.
