MANCHESTER’S ferocious folk foursome, 4Square, bring their fiery, inventive and virtuosic brand of alternative folk to the Milton Rooms on Sunday, October 29, 7.30pm, on their tenth anniversary tour.

Their trademark live show features the spectacle of Nicola Lyons’s simultaneous fiddle playing and clog dancing and virtuosic mandolin from Michael Giverin, galvanised by the driving sounds of Jim Molyneux’s piano and Dan Day’s percussion.

4Square have established their reputation as one of the best bands on the folk scene, storming festivals and venues.

They are currently on tour across the UK in support of their fourth studio album and to showcase their brand new EP which celebrates 10 years together as a touring band For the first seven years of their touring life, 4Square balanced education against gigging, with Nicola, Jim and Dan all studying music to a high level at University. After graduation, the band turned professional and then expanded with Michael adding his skills,

Vocals play a large part in any 4Square set with the lead parts shared between Jim, Dan and Nicola. When one is taking lead, the others provide harmony to create a rich tapestry of three-part harmonies, hand in hand with their formidable instrument playing.
