NUNNINGTON Hall is hosting to a unique garden sculpture trail, inspired by beauty and harmony of the natural world.

Naturalithic - an exhibition of stone sculpture by Jennifer Tetlow will be on display at the National Trust’s Nunnington Hall until Sunday, July 16.

Based in Lastingham, on the edge of the North York Moors, Jennifer began carving after a chance encounter with masons dressing wall-stones, and was taken with the sound and rhythm of hammer on chisel, and the neat-handed skills of the men at work.

She became a full-time sculptor in 1999 and is self-taught.

Her sculpture is inspired by a love of nature and the wildlife surrounding her workshop.

Jennifer said:“As a sculptor whose inspiration is found in the natural world and wildlife, exhibiting in the Nunnington Garden seems a perfect fit – with sculptures among wild flower meadows, strongly framed by topiary and triumphant in riotous, perfume filled borders. What a gallery.”

The garden at Nunnington Hall is managed organically, reviving traditional horticultural methods while embracing modern techniques and technology.

Laura Kennedy, visitor experience manager at Nunnington Hall said: “The natural world and local wildlife continue to be at the heart of Jennifer’s sculpture.

“She enjoys the process of shaping stone, direct carving into blocks of sandstone to create simple forms, with clean lines and highly finished surfaces. Each piece works in symphony with the natural design of the garden, simply adding to the beauty of each area.

Laura added: “This is the first sculpture trail we’ve hosted in the garden for a number of years.

“At this time of year when the garden is in full bloom, the sculptures are the perfect addition and complement the current display in the house – an exhibition of the British Wildlife Photography Awards.”

Nunnington Hall is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10.30am – 5pm and Mondays in school holidays.
