IT’S FOLK with a difference when Tir-na-nOg-Dundrumon Tuesday, June 6 – nearly 50 years since they first shot to fame.

Their music is seeing a revival of interest and the band will be playing tracks from their first studio album in more than four decades as part of their Dark Dance tour of the UK.

Tír na nÓg is a phrase from Gaelic mythology which means ‘land of eternal youth’. Tír na nÓg is also the name that Sonny Condell and Leo O’Kelly adopted when their musical paths fortuitously crossed in 1969.

The resulting mix was a magical potion of rich and varied sounds and idioms that was unique and completely different to anything else on the music scene at the time.

Tír na nÓg have been described as Alt Folk, Psych Folk, and even Space Folk! What is not disputed is that they are two of the most influential writers and musicians to have come from Ireland.

They made three classic albums for Chrysalis Records in the 1970s and were strongly championed by John Peel in his radio shows for the BBC. As well as headlining their own events, they toured the world with Jethro Tull, Cat Stevens, and Procol Harum.

Tickets, priced £12, are available from the Milton Rooms on 01653 696240 or online at wegottickets.com/event/ 393870.
