ARTISTS across Ryedale invite you to find out what happens behind the scenes when they take part in the North Yorkshire Open Studios this June.

This year 129 artists across will be inviting visitors to take a peek into their studios over two weekends in June.

Ryedale has an extraordinary wealth and breadth of talent to discover, from potters and painters, to jewellers, sculptors and printmakers.

Painters include Stephen Guyon Bird, whose bold narrative images are based on ancient myths and stories, Ian Thompson’s colourful abstract works and Kezy Feaster’s mixed media coast and landscape works.

At Lockton, Sue Slack’s vivid landscape paintings reveal her passion for the dramatic uplands and deep hidden valleys that surround her studio, and Marcus Steel creates contemporary sculptures in patinated metals.

See contemporary crafts by Angela Cole who harvests willow and natural hedgerow materials for her contemporary baskets and limited edition jewellery pieces by designers Stanbury & Moss.

Other Ryedale artists include:

• Jeweller Louise Dwyer, wildlife artist Jonathan Pomroy and blacksmith Matthew Dwyer who are at Gallery Beyond in Nunnington, whilst in nearby Sproxton see Stephen Heward’s painted landscapes

• A cluster of artists in Malton & Norton include painters Catriona Stewart and Dawn Brooks, woodblock printmaker Bernadette Wright, as well as ceramicist Jill Ford

• In Sheriff Hutton Justine Warner uses recycled fabrics to create textile landscapes, while Patrick Smith captures the wild forces of nature in his expressive paintings.

• Visit four artists in Kirkbymoorside; painters Jim Wright and Clare Belbin; printmakers Lyn Bailey and Sally Parkin. Then take a trip to Lastingham to see sculptor Jennifer Tetlow and printmaker John Creighton at Appleton-le-Moors.

North Yorkshire Open Studies are open on Saturday and Sunday, June 3 and 4, and Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11, 10.30am – 5.30pm. The event is run by Chrysalis Arts, an arts development organisation.
