Have you ever heard of a tap dancing mermaid?

This half term Helmsley Arts Centre is going nautical with its events. They have an Under the Sea Arty Crafty Day on Thursday, June 1, aimed at children aged seven-12, where they can join in under the sea themed activities from making salt dough sea creatures and seaside story stones to an ocean in an egg box.

In addition to the workshop, Marina, The Moon and a bunch of beautiful, hand-crafted mer-puppets are swimming their way to Helmsley Arts Centre to star in The Tap Dancing Mermaid, an innovative and exciting new one-woman show written and directed by Tessa Bide and performed by Stephanie De Whalley.

The Moon has got a story to tell about a tippetty-top tap dancer who he has been watching at night and you can hear it at Helmsley Arts Centre on Friday, June 2.Marina Skippett creeps out at night to tap dance on the boardwalk to the sounds of the sea. She can’t tap dance at home anymore since her evil Aunty banned it, threatening to feed Marina’s dinners to the dog. But then, one magical night, Marina meets a mysterious watery boy swimming alone and her life is never the same again.

As well as sea themed activities, Helmsley Arts Centre is showing the latest Dreamworks Animated film, The Boss Baby, a perfect film for the whole family to watch, based off Marla Frazee’s children’s book of the same name. It’s being screened on Wednesday. May 31, at 2.30pm.
