HASTE Theatre brings its first, much loved fringe show Oyster Boy to York Theatre Royal with the help of Theatre De Complicite’s movement director Kasia Zaremba Byrne.

Inspired by a Tim Burton poem, Oyster Boy tells the story of Sam, a boy born with an oyster-shell shaped head, his friendships with those who can see past his otherness, and his parent's struggle to raise this unusual boy.

The bittersweet tale of the trials of love and what it means to be 'different' is told through a rich blend of physical storytelling, live choral singing, clown, dance and puppetry. This colourful, multilingual dark comedy invites you to delve into a sensitive, funny and surreal world.

Valeria Compagnoni, Co-Director and devisor at Haste Theatre, says: "Re-developing and touring Oyster Boy at this particular point in time brings a new relevance to the story. We hope that young people and adults alike will stop, think and draw parallels."

Awards for Oyster Boy include Best International Show, Orlando Fringe 2014; Spirit of the Fringe, San Diego Fringe Festival 2013; Critic’s Choice for Creativity, Rome Fringe Festival 2013; Best Kid’s Fringe Show, Orlando Fringe 2014

The cast includes Eleanor Beaman-Brinklow, Valeria Compagnoni, Jesse Dupré, Lexie McDougall, Tamara Saffir and Sophie Taylor.

Oyster Boy is in the Studio Theatre, on April 1, 3pm and 7.45pm. Age recommendation is eight and over
