THE ESK Valley Theatre brings its touring show to Malton on Saturday, April 1 with the hugely popular John Godber play “September in the Rain”.

Over the past twelve years this professional company, based in Glaisdale, has built a reputation for high quality theatre productions, with its August season now attracting theatre lovers from all over the country.

Now the company are on the road, playing venues across North Yorkshire and Cleveland. “What a delight it is to welcome EVT to Malton and what a treat for our audience,” said Milton Rooms chair, Merryn Wilderspin.

“It's an ideal production for us,” said director Sheila Carter. “It has a simple set with only two actors, so it means we can travel light. We aim to reach as many people as possible, especially those who don't have much opportunity to enjoy a night at the theatre.”

In the play, a Yorkshire couple, Jack (played by Mark Stratton) and Liz (Úna McNulty), are on their annual Blackpool holiday. They take us on a roller coaster ride of the highs and lows, the arguing and making up, all washed down with a cocktail of ice-creams, fish and chips, and rain.

The stresses and strains of married life are brought sharply into focus as the beautifully observed scenes peel back the layers of Jack and Liz's relationship to reveal the truths within.

Mark is a co-founder and director of Esk Valley Theatre, and also a professional actor with a long list of theatre and television credits. Úna has also worked extensively in theatre and television and Coronation Street viewers may recognise her as 'Josie Hodge'.

Tickets, priced £12, are available from the Milton Rooms on 01653 696240 or online at wegottickets.com/event/39131
