‘FALLEN Angels’, a Noël Coward comedy, is being performed at Helmsley Arts Centre by the in-house 1812 Theatre Company, directed by Martin Vander Weyer.

In its original performances in 1925, the play shocked audiences with its risqué themes.

Director Martin Vander Weyer said: "It’s one of Noël Coward’s funniest plays, and certainly his sauciest. It’s the story of two sophisticated women, Jane and Julia, who are about to re-encounter Maurice, a French charmer they both had passionate affairs with before they married their rather staid English husbands. Fuelled by cocktails and champagne, the girls work themselves into a fever of excitement. And the following morning, here is Maurice at last — but here also, back from golf, are their husbands."

He added: "We chose this play for the 1812 Theatre Co as a natural follow-up to our sell-out 2015 production of Coward’s Private Lives — and because it works beautifully in our intimate studio theatre format, in which the audience are almost part of the action. I’m sure anyone who enjoyed Private Lives will love Fallen Angels."

Fallen Angels is at Helmsley Arts Centre from Thursday, February 23, to Sunday, 26, at 7.30pm in the Studio Bar at Helmsley Arts Centre.
