THE NORTHERN Soul all-day party of music and dance is back at the Milton Rooms this month.

Followers from across the country will be heading to Malton with DJs from the best clubs of the north to rock to the beat of their vinyl heroes on the Milton Rooms’ huge dance floor.

“This is going to be a real treat for soul fans and a fantastic opportunity for local people who haven’t experienced it yet to come along and discover what it’s all about,” said Milton Rooms’ event organiser Libby Pearson.

Northern Soul has been one of the great British subcultures for more than 50 years. It had its beginnings in Manchester, when the DJs played records from the emerging UK blues and soul stars.

They also played imported discs from the US where artists were then trying to cover the highly successful Motown acts, with their own interpretation of that sound.

These records, with their heavy beat, fast tempo and brass sections shaped the style of northern soul music. It was ideal dance music and for many fans the sound has just never gone out of style.

The Northern Soul scene is now going through a revival, with some of the bigger venues regularly hosting crowds of soul people 2000-strong.

This will be an all-day event at the Milton Rooms on Saturday, February 25 from 2pm to midnight.

Bar and a special chill-out room will also be available.

Tickets, priced £10, are on sale in advance from the Milton Rooms box office, telephone 01653 696240, or online at wegottickets.com/event/388900. Tickets can also be purchased at the door, subject to availability, with no admission after 10.30pm. A wrist band will be issued to all audience members so they can come and go throughout the day.
