ART works reflecting the huge wealth of talent on the Yorkshire coast can be seen at Scarborough Art Gallery until Sunday, March 12.

The East Coast Open, which is held every two years, attracts hundreds of entries from artists around the region, both professional and amateur, and the judges – this year York-based artist Mark Hearld, chair of the Friends of Scarborough Art Gallery Paul McCabe and Scarborough News editor Ed Asquith – selected a final exhibition of pieces. Submissions have included graffiti, graphic design, ceramics, stencils and architecture, as well as more traditional paintings.

Scarborough Museums Trust’s Volunteer Manager Julie Baxter said: “This is a great opportunity for local artists to show their work in Scarborough’s Art Gallery. We want it to be as open as possible, and to give as many artists as possible the opportunity to display their work: our judges will embrace this.”

Entry to see the exhibition is £3, which then includes entry fee to both Scarborough Art Gallery and the Rotunda Museum for a year. The Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturdays from 10am to 5pm. For further information, please call 01723 374753.
