ONE of the most entertaining and best-loved acts on the UK folk scene brings its infectious blend of foot-stomping music from around the world to the Milton Rooms Studio.
Hut People, armed only with a driving accordion and a dazzling array of exotic percussion, take the audience on a breathless global musical journey, mixing world rhythms with folk tunes from Quebec to South Africa, Scandinavia to Sussex and everywhere in between, in a quirky celebration of our rich musical heritage.
This is a show like nothing you’ve seen before – high octane feel-good music from a very likeable English instrumental duo with the ability to get the whole audience involved and loving it – even before the end of the first tune.
Piano accordionist Sam Pirt, from Hull, and percussionist Gary Hammond, from Goole, both have extensive backgrounds in music, having been part of and performed alongside legendary acts such as Beautiful South, Nina Simone, Dubliners and Sharon Shannon.
Packed with dancing tunes, audience participation, step dancing, foot-percussion (while playing the accordion) and humour aplenty, there is much to enjoy.
They are the only band to have played the Swaledale Festival eight times in succession and are in high demand on the folk circuit.
Tickets for the show on Sunday, February 19, priced £12, are available from the box office in Malton or by telephone 01653 696240.
