THE MILTON Rooms is offering a double bill of early Christmas treats for the family over the first weekend of December.

The sensational sight and sounds of pulsating Japanese drummers return to the Milton Rooms on Saturday, December 3, plus a pre-show workshop offering the chance to have a go at playing the mighty Japanese drums.

The following day there’s a magical, snowy treat for children when mischievous Jack Frost comes to the stage through puppetry, live music and enchanting storytelling and a special extra performance is designed for children not used to the sights and sounds of the theatre.

The York-based Kaminari UK Taiko Drummers wowed the audience with their exciting style of Japanese ensemble drumming last year and are promising a new show to thrill and excite.

Taking inspiration from Japanese culture and entertainment, Kaminari have created a unique blend of traditional and contemporary music, using energetic martial arts-like movements, complex rhythms, theatrics and big thunderous drums.

The performers will also be running a one-hour beginners workshop earlier in the afternoon at the Milton Rooms for adults and children over 10 who would like to try playing the different Taiko drums. Spaces are limited to 20 participants, so early booking is recommended.

Children aged 3-plus will be captivated by the return of Moon on a Stick’s touring puppetry company who bring to life the story of Jack Frost. Jack has no idea that his ability to freeze everything he touches is spreading havoc wherever he goes. One day a small girl befriends him and so begins a captivating story of friendship and bravery to warm everyone’s heart.

There are two performances on Sunday, December 4 at 2pm and 4pm. The later show is adapted to welcome children with special educational needs, those who are nervous of the theatre, or who find being still and quiet for long periods of time difficult.

Tickets for all performances and workshop are available from the box office in Malton or by telephone 01653 696240.
