HUTTON Buscel Artists' (HBA) annual exhibition, which is growing in its reputation for producing top class creative art and crafts worthy, takes place this month.

Once again, the internationally-acclaimed Alan M Hunt and Judi Kent Pyrah will be exhibiting in Hutton Buscel Village Hall, alongside Shirley Doyle, Dee Edmenson, Moira Spence, Maggie Ward, Diane Todd, Jan Jennings, Stasia Valentine, Kath Hudson, Mary Gibson, Trinity Chadwick, June Thompson and Geoff Gibson with a wide variety of art and 3D crafts to suit all tastes and pockets.

As the exhibition is so close to Christmas, there will be festive produce to feast your eyes on, including a raffle for a Christmas hamper.

This year’s exhibition features their very own poppy art installation as a tribute to the fallen, which can be found in the grounds of St Matthew’s Church, next door to the village hall.

Maggie Ward, HBA member, first put the idea for the art installation to the group in the summer, after seeing the touring poppy installation from The Tower of London at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

She said: “I thought it would be a wonderful thing for the group to create our own poppy cascade as a tribute to lives lost in all the wars since the First World War.”

Wheels were then put in motion and permissions sought, plus the Royal British Legion in Scarborough backed the idea with enthusiasm and donated as many poppies as were needed, and in return the HBA’s thanked them with a donation.

The group recently worked on the cascade over a number of weeks and it was finished off with some large ceramic poppies made by Shirley Doyle.

Shirley said: “Although ours isn’t as big as the one in London, the sentiments are the same and it looks stunning. It's had such a positive reaction that we now plan to create an even bigger poppy cascade next year.”

The exhibition will take place on Saturday, November 26 and Sunday, November 27, from 11am to 4pm. Entry is free and refreshments will also be available.
