TONY Turner is bringing his Northern Showtime Orchestra to the Whitby Pavilion on Remembrance Sunday, at 7.30pm, to present the story of Glenn Miller's life and music.

Tony created the Northern Showtime Orchestra to showcase the music of such legends as Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, George Gershwin and others.

The orchestra has gained national recognition for its range of theatre-style shows recreating original musical performances of legendary musicians and singers. Most shows include a visual backdrop of photos, film or sound clips. Recently the Northern Showtime Orchestra presented its newest show in Whitby, a tribute to the famous female vocalists of jazz and swing: Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee and others.

“This will be our only local performance of the Glenn Miller show this autumn,” said Tony.

“It is one of our favourites where we bring to life once again the music of the greatest bandleader of all time. Playing trombone myself I have always admired what Glenn Miller achieved with his orchestra. He was one of the true musical icons of the 20th century and his music has significance for so many people in the Western world. For this show we have researched the archives and will recreate many of his greatest records.”

Melodies to be included in the Glenn Miller show are Moonlight Serenade, The Saint Louis Blues March, When Johnny Comes Marching Home, In the Mood, At Last, Chattanooga Choo Choo, American Patrol, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and I’ve Got a Girl in Kalamazoo.

Tickets for Northern Showtime Orchestra presents The Glenn Miller Story are priced £12 and £11 for concessions and friends of the Pavilion. There are also special discounts for British Legion members and other local clubs in the Whitby area.
