SCARBOROUGH’S Tom Townsend pulls out all the stops when his big-band, high-voltage tour comes to a final climax at the Milton Rooms, in Malton, on Saturday, October 29.

Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Tom is one of the area's best-loved and most versatile performers. Now he’s in full cry with a seven-piece band, including horn section, bringing his "nobody-else-like-him" blend of soul-soaked vocals and floor-trembling rhythms to Malton.

From blues to hip-hop, drum and bass to jazz and beyond, Tom is promising a barnstorming night out as his original material gets the big-sound treatment mixed with some cool, soulful solo tunes.

Tom, a former Scarborough seafarer who won the Gold Award for Best Local Musician in the town last year, has been involved in the music industry for more than 20 years. He first picked up the guitar with purpose at the age of nine, soon followed by the drums and then he was hooked on music.

For those who haven’t seen him yet, he describes an evening of his music as “a breezy, playful cross between the barrel-house energy of New Orleans jazzmen, the stadium sophistication of Steely Dan, and the coffee house intimacy of Paul Simon”.

Tickets, priced £10, are available at the Milton Rooms box office, or by phoning 01653 696240.
