AN exhibition for the fans of cats and art is opening at Nunnington Hall.

The National Trust property and the Chris Beetles Gallery are joining forces for the exhibition of works by renowned cat artists from around the world opening on Saturday, October 24.

The event will showcase the work of many celebrated cat artists, including Kathleen Hale, Lesley Anne Ivory, Lesley Fotherby, Debbie Faulkner-Stevens and Geraldine Girvan and great Louis Wain.

Wain was a prolific artist in the early 20th century who specialised in drawing cats and was especially known for his illustrations of anthropomorphised cats and kittens, drawing them with very large eyes. He illustrated more than 100 children's books in his lifetime and his work appeared in papers, journals and magazines.

Lesley Anne Ivory is without doubt one of the most talented cat artist of this generation. At the very core of her work Lesley Anne loves cats and her work clearly reflects this. As an illustrator, she has published many books, including Cats Know Best and Meet My Cats.

Laura Kennedy, visitor experience manager at Nunnington Hall, said: “This artistic exhibition is the perfect visitor for both art and cat lovers alike.

"Showcasing some of the most well-known and talented cat artists from around the world, each piece demonstrates the artists' individual style and charm through the characters they portray.”

All of the art is for sale and a proportion of the proceeds will go towards supporting the charitable work of the National Trust at Nunnington Hall.

The exhibition is on display until Sunday, October 30. Nunnington Hall is open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 5pm, and Mondays in school holidays. For more information, phone 01439 748283 or visit nationaltrust.org.uk/nunningtonhall
