IT promises to be a magical half-term at Scarborough’s Art Gallery and Rotunda Museum with sparkling activities every day, including performances from one of the UK’s leading family theatre companies.

Starting on Saturday, October 22, at 10.30am, at Scalby Library, and 1.30pm, at Scarborough Library, The Wonderful World of Birds is a bird-themed session exploring the magical, mystical stories of some of our best-loved birds, with crafts for children aged six to 10. Entry is free.

On Monday, October 24, at 11.30am and 2pm, at Scarborough Art Gallery, internationally renowned M6 Theatre Company bring their magical production of wonder and discovery, Mavis Sparkle.

From the team behind the acclaimed One Little Word and Whatever the Weather, this cosmic show features an exciting mix of illusion, captivating performance and animation and has been created especially for children aged four and over and their families.

With her cleaning trolley full of secrets and surprises, Mavis is moving ever closer to making her dreams come true. All she needs is a little help from her cheeky cuckoo clock, mischievous mop bucket and Spike the hedgehog, to journey north and see nature’s biggest light show with her own eyes.

Mavis Sparkle is underscored by an original soundtrack by Tayo Akinbode, who has also worked with the RSC, the National Theatre and Shakespeare’s Globe.

Tickets for Mavis Sparkle cost £5 for adults and £3 for children. The gallery is closed on Monday, but will open for Mavis Sparkle 30 before the performance time.

Other events include Wish Upon A Star – learn about magical meteorites alongside the usual fossil-handling sessions with geological experts and Magical Mesolithic – an opportunity to get crafty and discover more about our Stone Age ancestors, with headdress-making and more.
