A DOUBLE bill of award-winning barbershop singing and traditional choral music features at the Milton Rooms in Malton on Saturday, September 17.

Spirit of Harmony Barbershop Chorus boasts about 60 members drawn from the Vale of York with a wide and varied repertoire - from old style, turn-of the-century barbershop songs to modern classics and fun numbers.

The Chorus has been in the top placings at the annual British Association of Barbershop Singers convention for the past 10 years, winning four medals along the way.

Spirit of Harmony is led by the outstanding Sally McLean who has directed the top ladies’ chorus in Europe, the White Rosettes, for many years.

The concert also features the vibrant York-based Cantar Community Choir. It was founded only 18 months ago by people with a passion for singing in choirs and a strong interest in both contemporary and classical choral works from around the globe.

It now boasts 50 singers of all ages under the musical direction of Craig Perkington, who brings warmth, exuberance, dynamics and attention to detail in his teaching and conducting.

Tickets priced £9 are available from the box office in Malton, by phoning 01653 696240, or at the door on the night from 7pm.
