FROM puppets on a string to wrestlers in the ring and classical clarinet to big band beat, the Milton Rooms in Maltonhas it all in store for October.

The month of varied entertainment opens on Friday, October 7, with York-based clarinettist Jonathan Sage and London's Keat’s String Trio joining forces for a concert of 18th century music featuring works by Mozart, Krommer and Crussell.

The programme showcases not only music for clarinet and string trio, but also Druschetzky's little-known but charming and melodious work for bassethorn and strings.

In contrast to the classical works, the Keats Trio will perform Three's a Crowd, a piece written especially for them by modern English composer Robert Busiakiewicz.

Pickering’s Becky Mills brings her melodious voice and acoustic guitar to the Milton Rooms Studio on Friday, October 14. As a former member of the award-winning band Waking the Witch, she has played Glastonbury and Cambridge Folk Festivals.

Since becoming a mother she has followed a solo career and has written and recorded her Dandelion album which won praise from Mike Harding for her singing from the soul.

“I don’t remember when I was so amazed by a singer-songwriter’s work,” said Mike.

Megaslam wrestling returns to the Milton Rooms on October 22 for a feast of family fun and thrills in the ring. Last year’s show proved a rip-roaring success and a host of top names will battle it out again.

The event is organised by one of Europe’s top wrestling promoters and the line-up of international stars promises to keep you on the edge of your seats in a night of daredevil moves and grappling action.

Theatrical Niche, renowned for its adaptations of classic texts, brings its own brand of high-energy theatre to the Milton Rooms on Friday, October 28, to re-tell the haunting story of Christopher Marlowe's Dr Faustus and his battle with the devil.

Exquisite puppetry, imaginative staging and circus artistry combine to make this a highly visual, fast-moving and often funny production suitable for audiences 12 years and over.

Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from Scarborough, Tom Townsend is one of the area's best-loved and most versatile performers. From blues to hip-hop, drum and bass to jazz and beyond, Tom is exciting to see or hear in any incarnation.

A special night on Sunday, October 29 sees Tom and the seven-piece band pulling out all the stops to make a performance to remember in Milton Rooms’ intimate concert hall. Tom's original material gets the big-sound treatment, making this a gig not to miss.
