DAZZLINGLY Colourful interpretations of the North Yorkshire landscape by Lockton-based artist Sue Slack can be seen at Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre from September 7 to October 8

Sue’s show, Colourful Landscapes, will include new works featuring distinctive trees against local backdrops.

Sue said: “I’m passionate about the outdoors, whether it’s running, walking or cycling and whatever the weather. I have a sense that the deep knowledge of the landscape I am developing from running the land, feeling every bump, hill and rock through the soles of my feet is increasingly reflected in my work. It is important to me that I ‘know’ the landscape that I recreate in my paintings.

“Colour and shape are significant, be it a clump of trees on a hill or a field pattern that catches my eye. The colours are those I see in the landscape, accentuated and re-adjusted as the painting progresses. The glow I manage to achieve in my finished paintings is a result of painstaking layering on of colour in acrylic paint.

“My current work, inspired by my favourite trees and which I hope to include in the Stephen Joseph Theatre exhibition, is a departure from the acrylic paintings and will feature ink and mixed media as drawing tools.”

Colourful Landscapes can be seen in the Gallery at the SJT from 10am to 6pm, Mondays to Saturdays, except during show times. Entry is free.
