A SUMMER school will challenge young people aged from nine to 19 to put on a play from scratch in a fortnight.

The Stephen Joseph Theatre’s OutReach department is once again presenting the Young People’s Summer School, Putting It On and Getting Away With It, during which two groups (nine to 12-year-olds, and 13-to-19-year-olds) will each create a play to be performed for friends and family at the end of the course.

OutReach projects manager Garry Leck said: “This is the second year we’ve returned home to the Stephen Joseph Theatre to run our very successful summer schools. They’re great for creative and energetic young people who are looking for something different, challenging and exciting to do this summer.

“Participants will work with theatre professionals to create two fantastic new plays which they’ll then perform for friends and family – it's a great opportunity to see how a professional theatre works, make new friends and have loads of fun.”

The two summer schools run from Monday, August 1 to Friday, August 12, with a dress rehearsal and final performances on Saturday, August 13, at 7pm.

Places on the summer school are £145 for the two-week course (£130 for current OutReach participants).
