LIVE music comes in many forms and styles, and this weekend there is an eclectic offer at Helmsley Arts Centre.

Friday, July 22, sees the Yorkshire Silent Film Festival's screening of a Charlie Chaplin double bill, with live piano accompaniment, while Delta Bluesman Dave Smith and guitarist Karl Moon will perform Blues with the Brewery in the Studio Bar at on Saturday, July 23.

Yorkshire Silent Film Festival, which is in its first year, is taking the magic of silent cinema with live music to venues right across Yorkshire.

The two films at Helmsley are classic comedies, celebrating the genius of Charlie Chaplin and dynamically brought to life with live piano accompaniment from one of the UK’s leading silent film pianists, and festival producer, Jonathan Best.

In One A.M. Charlie returns home from a night on the town, a little the worse for wear, and attempts to go upstairs to bed. In The Rink he shows off his extraordinary roller-skating skills. The event starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £10 and £5 for under 18s.

Blues with the Brewery takes place in the Studio Bar with, weather permitting, access to the arts centre garden.

Helmsley Brewery is bringing a barrel of their finest beer, and top quality blues will be provided by York-based duo Dave Smith on vocals and acoustic guitar, and Karl Moon playing the acoustic guitar,.

Their finger-picking style is firmly rooted in the traditional blues and together they demonstrate just how dynamic this music can be.

From the haunting slow blues of Robert Johnson to rousing foot tappers in the Chicago style, Dave and Karl promise a blues experience not to be missed. Tickets are £10, the bar opens at 7.30pm and the music starts at 8pm.
