"GARDEN" is a joint exhibition open until July 3 at the Bath House, RHS Harlow Carr, in Harrogate.

The exhibition includes the work of four well-known Yorkshire artists: mixed media artist Shirley Vauvelle, printmaker Stef Mitchell, painter Lesley Seeger and textile artist Corinne Young.

These four artist friends, though they work in very different media, are inspired by gardens, landscape, and by the Yorkshire coast near where they live and work. They exhibit nationally and internationally.

Shirley's inspiration comes from her garden and her love of the coast. She creates quirky paintings which explore space, colour and texture, and freestanding sculptural assemblages with small earthenware creatures and reclaimed objects, including driftwood, wire and old maps. Shirley has recently been commissioned to make artwork for the Hilton Hotel in Venice.

Stef's work immerses her in the landscape. The picking of plants and laying them out on an inked up plate, rolling, squashing and smell have a slow rhythm that feeds into a connective thread from the space of the landscape to the interior of the studio. All the prints she makes are monoprint, and are signed and dated on the back. She was one of 10 UK based printmakers selected to take part in the Connections North: Mirror Images exhibition in England, Scotland, Finland and Sweden in 2015.

Lesley paints landscapes both imagined and observed and loves to study closely in the garden where she feels nature is strong. A belief in the importance of beauty is a hallmark of her work. There are many layers to Lesley's paintings which mirror the history and changes of a landscape and the complex strata of our lives. Lesley is exhibiting later this year at the Biscuit Factory in Newcastle.

Corinne's textile pieces are 3D, and are hand and machine embroidered onto fabric, paper, and her own handmade linen paper. Her floral and insect studies also have a historic feel inspired by her passion for antiques.

As well as framed pieces, Corinne makes unique fabrics for furnishings. Recent works have included embroidered wall features, stumpwork caskets and pressed plant artworks for a London restaurant. She is currently collaborating with a Chelsea Gold medal winning garden designer and has recently exhibited at the GROW London show.
