THREE artists from re-running a month-long exhibition in York in memory of their colleague, celebrated pen and ink artist Fred Kennett, who died earlier this month.

The exhibition, at Blossom Street Art Gallery, launches on May 31 with an open evening on Friday, June 10, from 6pm to 8pm, when the artists will be at the gallery to discuss their work.

Mixed media artist Angela Bell, portrait and figurative painter Geoff Hewitt, and palette knife artist Heather Burton, had worked with Fred for several years, meeting through Street Art, Hull, of which Fred was a founder member, and taking part in joint and open exhibitions together.

Heather said: "Fred was involved with this exhibition right up until his tragic and untimely death.

"His wife, Gill, agreed wholeheartedly that the exhibition should go ahead in his memory and we shall be raising funds through the event for a charity of her choice."

Fred’s work has been exhibited all over the UK, including the Royal Academy, he was short-listed for a Yorkshire Television Award and he won the Sir William Lawrence prize at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Media Exhibitions 2005. He produced his distinctive fine pen and ink drawings for 30 years.

Art 4 Fred runs from Tuesday, May 31, to Wednesday, June 29, at Blossom Street Gallery, 2 Blossom Street, York.
