NORTHERN Broadsides’ larger-than-life Artistic Director will be the guest speaker at the Stephen Joseph Theatre’s (SJT) next Circle Café event on Thursday, April 28.

Circle Cafés are morning social gatherings for members of the SJT’s friends’ group, the Circle. Members are invited to meet in the Bistro at the SJT, enjoy coffee and cake, and listen to an informal talk by a member of the theatre’s creative team. The Circle also runs similar evening events, the Circle Soirées.

Barrie Rutter is playing Sir John Falstaff in Northern Broadsides’ new production of Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives, which visits the SJT from Tuesday 26 to Thursday, April 30.

His recent work includes the title roles in Jonathan Miller’s productions of King Lear and Rutherford & Son, as well directing and featuring in Broadsides’ award-winning co-production with the New Vic Theatre, An August Bank Holiday Lark. He has previously worked for the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Last year Barrie was awarded the OBE for services to Drama.

The SJT Circle is a membership organisation with a family feel that brings members closer to the action at the Stephen Joseph Theatre.
