A FRIENDSHIP, a marriage, a holiday, a death: German Skerries fills the stage with the meetings and departures that make us human.

George Evans, Henry Everett, Katie Moore and Howard Ward appear in the first major revival of Robert Holman's 1977 play.

Directed by Alice Hamilton, it is a co-production between the Orange Tree Theatre and award-winning touring company Up in Arms (Barney Norris's Eventide and Visitors picked up nine Off West End Award nominations between them).

This pertinent play is set against the backdrop of the Redcar steel works on Teesside, the closure of which was announced last autumn.

German Skerries is set in 1977: Martin, Jack, Michael and Carol are starting out into the future. Around a popular birdwatching spot overlooking the mouth of the Tees, their lives intertwine to create an uplifting portrait of human hope and vulnerability.

Born and brought up in Guisborough, then in North Yorkshire, now in Redcar and Cleveland, Robert Holman's career spans four decades and includes a number of plays.

Most recently his play A Breakfast of Eels premiered at the Print Room. Robert has been resident dramatist at the National Theatre and RSC. He has also written for television and radio.
