A HOST of world class opera singers head to Scarborough Spa on Tuesday, February 23, with the Viennese Strauss Gala 15th Anniversary Tour.

World famous opera singer Maria Kesselman will be performing alongside soloists from major opera companies in this show which re-creates the nostalgia and romance of the grand ballrooms of 19th century Vienna.

The audience will be introduced to a by-gone age of glamorous soiree’s and Strauss waltzes which comprises highlights from some of the great operettas of Strauss, Kalman and Lehar. Including Die Fleidermaus, The Merry Widow, A Night in Venice and many more.

Having trained at the Royal College of Music, Maria maintains a varied performing career spanning musical theatre, theatre, opera, concert, recording, cabaret and dance. Maria’s theatre credits include numerous lead roles including Christine opposite Michael Crawford in The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre. In Opera, she has also performed widely, including Musetta in La Boheme and Despina in Cosi Fan Tutti in London and Amsterdam. Maria is also an established concert performer, giving solo performances at venues across the UK, including The Royal Albert Hall.

Joining Maria is the fabulous Amanda Watsham. Having trained at Morley Opera College, Amanda Watsham has recently performed the role of Carlotta in The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre, London. Her theatre credits include The Merry Widow, The Tales of Hofmann, Showboat, Bless The Bride, Carousel and Orpheus among others. Amanda is also in much demand for concert recitals and has worked as a guest soloist at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and Westminster Central Hall.

Performing alongside Maria and Amanda IS British Tenor Peter Wilman. Peter is experienced with the English Chamber Opera in various principal roles in Don Giovanni for the English Chamber Opera and also Dolfin for the Welsh National Opera, and is also joined by fellow Welsh National Opera singer Owen Webb.

These extremely talented lead singers are complimented by the European Orchestral Ensemble.

This beautifully crafted production is cleverly choreographed, tastefully costumed and magnificently sung, and gives the audience an authentic feel of a nostalgic Viennese evening, appealing to the romantic as much as the music aficionado and has already received rave reviews and delighted audiences all over the Country.
