NOW in its tenth year, gallery owners Matthew and Louise Dwyer have launched a new exhibition showcasing work by some of the best artists creating and making in Yorkshire along with artists working further afield.

Matthew said Saltbox would be showing paintings by artist Russell Lumb, who works from his studio in Snainton.

"Russell worked as an architect and his paintings on show reflect this interest and their place within our landscape and the structures impact therein. The artist Eliza Brown from Manchester now working from her studio in Chester and recently returning from Chelsea Art Fair will be showing a strong group rich colourful mixed media paintings," he added.

"Continuing this theme and showing for the second time at Saltbox is Robins Hood based artist Lynne Wixon who has given herself the wonderful and interesting task of documenting the amazing structures to be found around the English Coastline. Starting in the Northeast Lynne has now got as far as the Essex coast and the paintings on show will reflect her work on the journey thus far."

Saltbox Gallery will also be showing new paintings by Steve Williams and Freya Horsley, both of whom live and work in York.

Louise said: "Steve and Freya are landscape artists - Steve paints abstract pastoral scenes whereas Freya’s work is an exploration of the etheral high ground, a place sometimes found in our dreams.

"Ceramics are always a main feature at the Saltbox Gallery and we are delighted to be showing a new selection of work by Terry Shone who creates sublime ceramic sculptures from his base in Whitby.

"Also new ceramic work will be displayed from Helen Kemp who makes delightful hand built figurative pieces. As part of the Drawn Lines Exhibition we will be showing for the first time a selection of ceramic vessels by Shropshire potter Dennis Farrell whose current work responds to light, line, colour and textures as observed in rural and coastal landscapes."

Louise said that also showing as part of the exhibition would be new work by Harrogate artist Chris Moss who creates beautiful animal sculptures from wire and wire mesh.

"We welcome Angela Cole, Yorkshire Willow Baskets artist in baskets and sculpture, using sustainable local natural materials, and also sculptor Paul Smith who is showing at Saltbox for the first time," she added.

"Paul makes dream-like ceramic sculptures in a bold, semi-abstract style, inspired by stories of our relationship with the animal world. Gale and Temple subtle hand spun and dyed Yorkshire wool scarves.

Winterscape - Drawn Lines will run until mid January.
