ST MARY’S Priory Church, Old Malton, is host to quite a special event on Saturday, December 5.

Johnny Minford’s Far Flung choir are performing a Christmas concert, with sparkling sopranos Sophie Gallagher and Sinead O’Kelly.

Many will remember Sinead from Johnny’s Christmas concert a couple of years ago, the “Opera Voice of Northern Ireland”, and indeed she will be flying in from Belfast that morning from a performance in the Magic Flute, to appear.

The concert will be accompanied by Christopher Glynn. Many will know Christopher as the artistic director of the Ryedale Festival, as well as from his regular appearances on Radio 3 as one of the foremost accompanists in Europe today.

Far Flung choir always provides a fast moving and varied programme, and Johnny often has a surprise or two in hand – those lucky enough to be at the England-and-Scotland concert will remember the sudden appearance of the Ampleforth Highlanders Pipe Band out of nowhere.

The programme will consist of some familiar music, and some which will be unfamiliar. There will be one piece written for the BBC which will be receiving its North Yorkshire premiere.

This is a free event, but tickets should be reserved from Will on 01904 414471 (or text 07841 260000 outside office hours) for catering purposes - wine & canapés will be provided from 6.30pm, with the performance itself from 7.30pm.

The event supported by St Mary’s Priory and the British Heart Foundation.
