LOCAL band, the Fine Companions, brings a wide-ranging mix of folk music to raise the spirits at the Milton Rooms this month.

The Companions have grown over the years from a duo to a five-strong band. And their range of music has widened to reflect the injection of new members, instruments and musical influences.

Now performing with fiddle, double bass, bagpipes, guitar, banjo and flute, the Fine Companions deliver their own interpretation of much-loved folk classics and lively tunes and, of course, good craic.

Their set at the Milton Rooms will include lively jigs and reels, traditional and well-known material penned by the likes of Bob Dylan and Sandy Denny, plus Bruce Springsteen’s haunting tale The Ghost of Tom Joad.

The band comes from all walks of life – from teaching to jam manufacture – but they share a common love for their music.

“We hope to share our enthusiasm and enjoyment with the audience and prove that folk and fun are alive and well in Yorkshire,” said founder member Glenn Stott, from Malton.

The Fine Companions are at the Milton Rooms on Saturday, November 21, at 7.30pm. Tickets priced £8 (£7 concessions) are available from the box office on 01653 696240.
