SCARBOROUGH Symphony Orchestra’s new season starts next month and promises both classic favourites and the chance to rediscover some rarer gems, with more world-class guest soloists on stage.

The programme begins on Saturday, November 21, with the return of pianist Yuki Negishi now much in demand to play around the world, who will perform one of Mozart’s most popular Piano Concertos, No 21, nicknamed Elvira Madigan after the Swedish film title of the sixties in which it was featured.

In February, Richard Quick, a previous leader of the orchestra makes his return with Elgar’s masterpiece, his Violin Concerto.

In true Proms style the orchestra’s April offering features popular music from around the world, including Dania Alzapiedi, from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, playing Bach’s beautiful Violin Concerto in E major.

The final concert of the season, next July, welcomes back the local favourite and internationally-renowned cellist Jamie Walton, performing the virtuosic Variations on a Rococo Theme by Tchaikovsky.

Under the baton of Shaun Matthew, now celebrating 10 years as conductor, the orchestra has received growing acclaim for its quality and breadth of work, recognised by the ever-increasing audiences at its home in the Queen Street Methodist Central Hall.

"We are truly fortunate to have such wonderful live music on our doorstep. They are an inspiration both to audiences and the many young players that now regularly play with them,” said the orchestra’s patron, Lady Ayckbourn.

A special offer season ticket covering all the Scarborough Symphony Orchestra’s concerts can be purchased in advance for just £35 (£30 for concessions). See scarborough-orchestra.co.uk or phone 01751 471409 for details.

Tickets for each concert are also available on the night. All concerts begin at 7.30pm and there are free pre-concert talks open to all concertgoers at 6.45pm.
